Weather alert

In the event of a snow alert, we are prepared to restore vehicle and pedestrian traffic

n the event of weather and snow alerts, we activate all operations for the restoration of vehicle and pedestrian traffic as set out in the operational plan for the snow emergency. In cooperation with the Municipality of Milan, we define the type of operation and timing based on the forecast. We have a dedicated weather forecasting service to take timely action in the event of snow in Bergamo.

Where we take action

Our salt spreaders and snowploughs take action based on priority

In the event of an emergency, snow clearing operations using salt spreaders and snowploughs take place in the following urban areas:

High-traffic roads (prioritised)

We give priority to roads with high vehicle traffic.

Access to sensitive facilities (prioritised)

We take prompt action on roads that allow sensitive locations to be reached (hospitals, public transport, schools, etc.).

Access routes to the city (prioritised)
Pavements in front of public buildings or buildings of public interest

We clean the pavements in front of public buildings or hospitals, churches, ATM stops, etc.

Public markets

We take action to restore the areas designated for public markets.

City parks and public gardens

We take action in the avenues of the city’s public parks and gardens, mainly in avenues leading to activities of public interest.

How we take action

We have a specific plan of action according to different weather conditions

Depending on the severity of the condition, we take action in different ways:

  • How and where we take action: we deploy salt spreaders in overpasses, subways and flyovers.

What you have to do: spread anti-slip materials on pavements such as salt, sand or sawdust (*).

For details check the complete Municipal Regulations.

(*) Art. 54 of the Municipal Regulations – Snow removal.

  • How and where we take action: we use specialised vehicles and personnel to spread salt on access roads to the city, at pedestrian crossings, in front of schools, hospitals and public transport stops, and subsequently in other areas of the city.

What you have to do: clearing snow from pavements by creating a passage for pedestrians (*).

(*) Art. 54 of the Municipal Regulations – Snow removal.

  • How and where we take action: we deploy snowploughs, skid-steer loaders, salt and snow removal personnel and, if necessary, other personnel for emergencies on city access roads, at pedestrian crossings, in front of schools, hospitals and public transport stops, and subsequently in other city areas.

What you have to do: accumulate snow along the roadside without encroaching on the carriageway and without obstructing drains and roadside gullies (*).

We proceed with the removal of large snowdrifts on the roads, pavements and in the “accumulation zones” identified in agreement with the Municipality.

What you have to do: remove the accumulation of snow on roofs, preventing it from being dumped on public soil, and remove hanging ice from gutters and cornices; both actions must be carried out in complete safety.

In the event of snowfalls of more than 20 cm, parked cars must be removed flush with the pavement and placed, until normal road conditions are restored, in car parks, garages and also in house courtyards and doorways to allow vehicles to clear the roadways (*).

(*) Art. 54 of the Municipal Regulations – Snow removal.
